Going to the cinema is definitely a no-can-do when there’s a pandemic raging. Because of that, I decided to create my own cinema feeling at home. I’m quite happy with the result.
The one thing that says cinema
What do you think of when someone says “cinema” to you? I definitely think about popcorn. That delicious smell that fills the whole room… Yum! I have figured out that if you make the popcorn in a casserole and put in some butter, and then while it’s freshly popped you take a lot of salt on… That’s when you get the perfect popcorn! I am going to have a movie night tonight as well, and will absolutely make popcorn then. Maybe I’ll rewatch one of my all-time favorite guilty pleasure movies, yet another time! Haha!
Setting the mood
I think the most important thing is to get the room dark, like in a real cinema. Because of that my go-to is to have candles, and also string lights. They really set the mood! I always make sure to not have them too close to the tv, so that they don’t get distracting. The best thing is, of course, to watch the movie at night when it’s dark outside… But there have been a Sunday or two where I’ve spent the day with a movie. Haha, haven’t we all! Because of that, it’s so perfect to get that cinema feeling at home. It makes it so much cozier. I honestly don’t mind having a cinema night alone. It allows me to rewatch my silly movies as much as I want, haha. In addition to that, I can watch as many chick-flicks as I want in a row… I’m guilty as charged of having cinema marathons as much as I can.
Choosing the right movie for cinema night
As you might know, I’m rarely picky. The only thing I don’t like when it comes to movies is scary movies. I just can’t. It does not help if I watch it at home, it’s no better than at the actual cinema. I get scared shitless, haha. I can’t handle it. But the rest of the categories when it comes to movies and cinema – I’m game. Sometimes it can be fun to try some new movies that you haven’t seen before, even though you’re watching them at home. Luckily a lot of streaming services get new movies quite early, so it’s an opportunity. At the same time, a good old classic is never wrong either.
Not wasting my time
I must admit that I often choose movies I’ve already seen for my cinema night. I know that might sound stupid but I don’t want to waste my time and get disappointed. Because of that I’d rather watch a movie that I already know and love, because then I know I’ll for sure have a good time. On the other hand, it’s nice to see something new for a change. I know I should be better at that, haha! If you guys have any recommendations for what I should see on my next cinema night, please write it in the comments!
